We are looking for a highly motivated individual from within the fire detection/security protection industry who has an electrical systems engineering background and a working knowledge of the appropriate British Standards and other Fire or security industry-related standards for a role as a Small Works Manager to work for our client in Glasgow.

Our client is looking to expand their projects and small works department and is seeking a key individual who will play a major part in this expansion. The role will involve monitoring and quoting small projects and works, on both service generated and project generated quotations, and external enquiries, and seeking to grow the present level of accepted quotations.

In this role, you will need to respond quickly to quotations required and will have a cohesive knowledge of small works and projects running and falling under your remit, as well as ordering all pertinent equipment for these works and organising labour in a timely fashion.   A knowledge of the equipment involved would be helpful.

You will also be expected to survey certain projects and produce relevant and cost-effective quotations. Part of the role will be to explore ways of growing the quotation acceptance level rate and seek further business opportunities proactively.

To be successful in this role you should have industry experience and have established yourself as a technically astute, proactive individual capable of meeting tight deadlines under pressure. The ability to plan and deliver results, in line with the targets set, is essential. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and negotiation skills are required. You must be able to work effectively independently or as part of a wider project team and to liaise with engineers and customers alike.

The successful candidate will have experience of delivering high-quality customer service to a broad range of customers. A flexible approach to working hours and a willingness to learn is essential. Literacy, numeracy and computer skills will be key and working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of software programmes would be highly advantageous.

The role will include -

• Customer Liaison
• Quoting small works & further actions
• Scheduling small works visits
• Visiting customer premises to carry out site surveys
• Following up further actions from jobs
• Managing customer call outs, allocation of resources and follow up
• Project management of small works
• Liaising with and organisation of subcontractors for small projects
• Estimation and quotation of small works and additions to systems
• Producing invoice forecasts
• Providing all required paperwork to enable projects to comply with accreditations
• Assisting in audit service department processes
• Co-operate in internal and external audits

We're looking for someone with excellent people and communication skills as the role involves dealing with customers and potential customers. You will require patience, understanding and the ability to act calmly and resolve difficult situations. You'll also need to be Self-motivated with good personal organisation, forward planning and the ability to provide accurate Management reports in a timely fashion using Microsoft Office Suite and Clik.

We are looking for a Fire & Security Engineer to undertake the checking, testing and/or setting into operation of equipment and systems in accordance with quality procedures, the project specification, the project programme, technical directives and the specified standards. When the system is operational, to demonstrate to the customer the system complies with the contract specification.

To provide a professional service to meet customers’ requirements and to ensure compliance with the National British or other relevant Standards.

Based in Glasgow the work will include:

  • Providing  services and call-out engineering for equipment and systems in accordance with service specifications, the customer specifications and or British or other Defined Standards.
  • Recording and providing the appropriate information required to comply with the same standards and specifications including works reports, check sheets and test records. Porviding this information in a timely and professional manner.
  • Liaising on-site with the customer's designated representative(s).

    To liaising with other contractors/subcontractors, to ensure site operations are fully coordinated.

  • Acting as a responsible team member, to ensure the service or project manager is fully informed of the progress of the engineering activity.
  • Ensuring all site documentation, drawings and schedules are updated with any changes as routine servicing or commissioning proceeds.
  • Demonstrating to the customers representative(s) that the equipment and system complies with the contract specification.
  • The training of the customer's staff, as required by the contract terms and conditions.
  • Attending personal training programmes as required.
  • Preparing time sheets, on a weekly basis.
  • Refering to your department manager for technical support, when required.
  • Ensuring any request by the customer for extra works is referred to the service / project engineer for acceptance/approval, to ensure the correct contractual procedures are followed.
  • Ensuring any non-compliant systems, equipment or materials are identified and reported back to the supervisor in sufficient detail so that the customer can be informed and corrective actions can be taken.
  • Ensuring all damaged or faulty equipment is carefully packed and immediately returned to the office for investigation as appropriate.
  • When requested to respond to emergency call-outs, to ensure the customer receives service support (during normal working hours)

We're looking for someone with excellent people and communication skills as the role involves dealing with customers and potential customers. You will require patience, understanding and the ability to act calmly and resolve difficult situations. A logical approach to fault diagnosis is a distinct advantage. Self-motivated with good personal organisation, forward planning and the ability to provide accurate reports where necessary. You will be expected to represent the company in a professional and diligent manner at all times.

During the initial training period, you will be shadowing experienced engineers to gain the skills and knowledge required to complete your initial training. We are looking for people who love working in a team, are determined and like to solve complex problems as well as being keen to constantly learn new things and expand their knowledge. In return you'll receive a starting salary of £28k pa.

In this role you will be responsible for developing new products or systems, as well as the improvement of existing designs, products, machinery, and equipment.

You will work within the design department and will be required to undertake the following tasks:
- Designing electromechanical assemblies (and enclosures) using Solidworks and AutoCAD
- Generating 3D models and 2D drawings
- Generating complete bills of materials for the designed products
- Generating work instructions for the manufacture of the designed products
- Attending meetings to better understand the clients' requirements.
- Spending time with production learning the company processes and machinery used in the manufacture of products/components.
- Researching whether the design will work and be cost-effective (DFMEA).
- Assessing the usability, environmental impact, and safety of a design.
- Using computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-assisted engineering (CAE) software to create prototypes.
- Collecting and analysing data from tests on prototypes.
- Improving efficiency of current 3D modelling methods, use of vault, automatic drawing generation, and automatic generation of bills of materials.
- Use of thermal modelling from SolidWorks.

Salary range is between £40-45k pa and you will work closely with all the design engineers but will report to the Technical Engineering Manager.

We're looking for a Site Manager for a 6 month contract in Whitby.

Your responsibilities will  typically include:

  • Liaising with the client on work to be undertaken on a daily basis and to obtain the relevant permit to work
  • Coordinating and supervising all subcontractors working on-site
  • Making safety inspections and ensuring construction and site safety
  •  Checking site work against design drawings
  • Maintaining quality control procedures
  • Finding ways to prevent problems and to solve any that crop up
  • Assessing and minimising risk
  • Keeping on top of paperwork

You'll need the following:

  • To be SSSTS/ SMSTS trained with at least 2 year's experience as a site manager
  • To be familiar with CDM regs
  • First aid trained (appointed person as a minimum)
  • A CSCS card (Site Manager level as minimum)
  • Other health and safety qualifications such as manual handling, COSHH assessment, risk assessment etc will be useful
  • Familiarity with the permit to work system
  • To undergo a an on-site medical.

Site working hours 7:00 – 17:30 with 2 x  30 mins breaks. Park and ride is available from Whitby to the site.

Rate of pay is £300 a day.
